Federal officials investigate a workplace fatality at a plant in Columbus, Neb.
COLUMBUS, Neb. (KTIV/US92) - Federal investigators are investigating a workplace fatality at the BD Medical Plant in Columbus, Nebraska.
Columbus rescue crews were called to the plant shortly after 9:00am Tuesday. Scott Allen with the Occupational Health and Safety Administration said that federal crews are on scene conducting their investigation.
“The information we have now, is that we understand that the worker was on a forklift and there was some type of incident and we don’t have any details, and we wont release the details until we’ve finished our investigation,” Scott Allen with the OHSA office in Chicago said.
Lt. Dane Jensen with the Platte County Sheriff’s office did identify the victim 53-year-old Denise Wieser of Richland, Nebraska. Lt. Jensen did say that all indications do lead to her death being caused by an industrial accident. The Platte County Sheriff’s is continuing their investigation into the incident as well.
Alyssa Zeff with BD said that the company is deeply saddened by the death of their associate at the Columbus facility, and that their heartfelt sympathies go out to her family, friends and the entire Columbus community during this difficult time
