Early morning fire destroys a barn near Salix, Iowa

The call came in just before three Thursday morning for a fire at 2461 Allison Avenue, which is about a mile south of the Sioux Gateway Airport. The barn was being used for storage. Several gas containers in the barn exploded and fueled the fire. Nobody was hurt, but the barn is a total loss. Investigators don't yet know what started the fire.

Navy starts work on the USS Sioux City

Construction is underway on the USS Sioux City, the Navy's newest warship. A keel-laying ceremony in Marinette, Wisconsin Wednesday marked the beginning of work on the Freedom-Class Littoral combat ship. The USS Sioux City will support a broad range of missions from anti-submarine, to anti-surface, to mined countermeasure warfare, shipping lane protection and humanitarian aid. The USS Sioux City should be ready set sail in 2016.

Sioux City students give a living history lesson

Historical figures come to life at Sioux City's Clark Elementary School. On Wednesday, students staged their annual "Wax Museum Hall of Presidents." Students dressed up as former U.S. Commanders in Chief and portrayed the Presidents based on their studies of them.
