SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Sioux City's annual home show is starting up again at the Convention Center in Downtown.
It may simply appear like an opportunity for area businesses to show off their wares.
"It gives us a one-on-one with the customers. A lot of times, customers are leery of what they want to do at the moment, so they'll walk around the home show and get some good ideas, and they can visit with us one-on-one here," Rich Callahan, owner of Rass Remodeling and Repair said.
But officials with the Homebuilder's Association say it's much more than that.
"Not only are the people coming here to get ideas or talk to the experts on building, but it affects all the restaurants in Sioux City, they get a volume of business, the hotels, the clothing stores," Nancy Moos, executive officer of the Homebuilder's Association of Greater Siouxland said.
Thousands turn out every year for the hundreds of booths, featuring products for almost every aspect of home improvement. Vendors say they believe it's good for everyone involved, and it never gets repetitive.
"Every year we have new vendors coming in and out, so a person thinking that it's the same thing every year, it's not. We have new vendors every year, so it's always refreshed year-to-year," Callahan said.
Officials with the Homebuilder's Association say conversations about development in Sioux City couldn't come at a better time for the community.
"We definitely need new development in Sioux City. A lot of development. We've got new industries coming in, which are going to need housing, of course. Rental units, apartment buildings, anything," Moos said.
Development, she says, hopefully sparked by the thousands of visitors interested in building and growing Siouxland.
The event runs Thursday and Friday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
