Storm Lake, IA police say a report of an attempted abduction was a misunderstanding

Police in Storm Lake, Iowa say a reported attempted abduction on Friday was a misunderstanding and the investigation has been closed.

A seven-year-old girl told police that as she got off a school bus a man with dog on a leash told her to "get in the car."

After tracking down and interviewing the man, police have determined he was actually warning the girl not to be alarmed by the dog, which he said could sometimes be aggressive.

Authorities in Storm Lake, Iowa, are looking for help to find a person in connection with a possible attempted abduction.

Police were called to the intersection of East 13th and Seneca Streets around 3:45pm, Friday afternoon.

They say a 7-year-old girl told them she was getting off the school bus and a man told her to "get in the car." Instead, the girl ran to a neighbor's home, and called police.

The suspect is described as large, older white man with a grey beard and glasses. The suspect also had a large black dog with him and was standing outside of a larger silver vehicle.
