A South Sioux City, Nebraska principal receives a high honor

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KTIV) - Sherri Fillipi was honored as Nebraska's National Distinguished Principal Award recipient at Covington Elementary Friday.

Fillipi was chosen from a pool of candidates spanning five regions in the state.

The school held a ceremony for Fillipi and her family with speakers and musical performances by the students.

Fillipi was surprised and honored by the award, but maintains that it's part of a bigger purpose.

"It's all about the kids," said Fillipi "It's all about helping them prepare for the next level in their life. I can't say enough about the students within the South Sioux City Community School District."

Fillipi will represent the state of Nebraska in the National Distinguished Principal recognition in October.
