Sioux City Film Fest kicks off Oscar weekend

Oscar weekend is here, and Sioux City is sticking to a tradition that movie buffs look forward to every year.  That is the Siouxland Film Festival.

This year's films include a variety of genres like comedy and animation

And, they come from filmmakers as far away as Australia and Switzerland.

Organizers say they're all 15 minutes or less and audience members choose the winners.

"Everybody's a critic. And, so there are movies that will make people scratch their heads and wonder what was that all about, they'll laugh, some of them might bring them to tears, and it's just a very unique event for here in Siouxland. It happens once a year," Tim Bottaro, Siouxland Institute of Film President, said.

If you missed the showing at two p.m., the films will be shown again at seven at the Orpheum Theatre

Tickets cost $6 for adults and $3 for students.
