A car hits the gas line of house, leading to the evacuation of homes through several blocks of Sioux City.
The car crashed in the home at 1223 26th Street and drove off around 5:30 Sunday.
Authorities set up a perimeter two to three blocks wide around the home.
Several people were standing outside in the cold, waiting to get back to their homes.
Some said they had absolutely no idea what was going on.
"We were on 26th street and I hopped out of the car, I just came from the mall, and asked the police man, 'Can I get home?' And he said, 'No, there's a lot of stuff going on.' He really didn't tell me much. I was like, 'I live right down there at 1202,' and he said no," Symphony Mitchell, Sioux City said.
MidAmerican Energy was called in to stop the leak. Officers began letting people get back to their homes around 6:30 this evening.
