DNR monitoring untreated sewage spill in Storm Lake, IA

STORM LAKE, Iowa (KTIV) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is monitoring a spill of untreated sewage on the south side of Storm Lake.

A contractor for the city reported the leak Tuesday morning after finding sewage flowing under the snow.

The Southwest Sanitary District stopped the leak in the afternoon and was working this morning to repair the line.

An unknown amount of untreated wastewater was released, but it is frozen solid behind silt fences.

The district estimates that two-thousand gallons reached and froze on top of Outlet Creek, which is filled with ice.
