Musketeers clinch playoff spot by beating Des Moines

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

The Sioux City Musketeers clinched a playoff spot in the United States Hockey League with a 4-1 win over Des Moines on Thursday.

The Muskies (32-15-3) trailed 1-0 after one period. Jared Thomas scored at the 9:01 mark of the second period to tie the game at 1-1.

Thomas scored the go-ahead goal five minutes into the third period and then added two empty-net goals in the final 90 seconds. Thomas now has 17 goals on the season.

Sioux City goaltender Kyle Hayton 30 of 31 shots to get the victory.

Sioux City will be home again on Friday to play Waterloo. The Musketeers still have ten games left in the regular season before the playoffs begin the week of April 7th.
