said a fire that caused half a million dollars in damage to a Yankton motel last Tuesday was intentionally set and they're offering a $6,000 reward to help catch the arsonist. The fire destroyed part of the Colonial Inn and left the rest with smoke damage. A grass fire briefly stopped traffic on an interstate exit ramp in downtown Sioux City. The flames broke out just before 3:00 Sunday afternoon near the Floyd Boulevard exit. Firefighters doused the flames quickly. No word on the cause of the fire.
The chairman of Iowa's Republican Party is stepping down. A.J. Spiker plans to become a political adviser to U.S. Sen. Rand Paul's political action committee. The party will choose a new chairman on March 29th. Spiker will stay on in the post until his replacement is selected.
A celebration of family in Spencer, Iowa. Organizers hoped this weekend's 4th Annual Family Fest would be both fun and educational for the more than 1,400 guests who filled the Clay County Regional Events Center. One of the highlights was the "Safety City" filled with police cars, an ambulance and fire truck. The event was free.
