Law enforcers say that when they arrived at the scene, they found the main dwelling on the rural property and a pick up truck on fire. They later recovered two bodies from the scene. The Monday afternoon fire killed those two people, whose bodies were transported to the Iowa State Medical Examiner. Officials say the autopsies to determine the cause of death are complete, but they can't release the cause of death at this time, or the identities of the two who died."The cause and manner of the death cannot be released at this time as the case is still under investigation. Identification of the bodies is pending official confirmation," Sheriff Jim Steinkuehler, Crawford County said.
As they work to solve the case, the Crawford County Sheriff's office is working together with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, who says they're not ruling out foul play just yet as they work to solve the mystery behind the fatal flames.
"Determining the cause is one of our top priorities. Obviously there are investigative leads there to help us substantiate what happened there if we're not able to pinpoint certain things at the scene. That's why we're reaching out through the media to help us find some additional information," Dan Dawson, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation said.
Authorities are actively seeking the help of the surrounding community. They received information that two white males were seen near the area of the fire in a newer, dark, extended cab pickup truck, and they believe those two males may have witness information regarding the fire that can help them understand what happened on that rural property.
