School district projects more students, more revenue

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

After several lean years that forced Sioux City's Community School Board to make cuts to its teach staff, the district is working with extra revenue this year.

"It's a much happier place for us to be in here in the Sioux City Community School District to have this windfall as a result of increasing enrollment,” said Board President Mike Krysl.

This spring, the board will vote on a proposed $160-million budget.

Two-hundred-and-two students were added to the district.  That means there's a need for more teachers.

The superintendent proposes adding 13 new teachers.  They're also planning to lower the tax asking by 16-cents.

The new levy would be $16.52 for every $105,000 in property owned.
