Red Cross hosts open house, asks for volunteers

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - March is Red Cross Month.

And the Siouxland Area Chapter of the Red Cross, which covers 24 counties in our area, wanted to spread the word about volunteer opportunities.

Tuesday, they held an open house for people to learn more about how they can help the organization.

Volunteers who've been with the Red Cross for years also came out to share their experiences with others.

Those who work at the Red Cross say the organization relies on volunteers to help out with a range of jobs from data entry to assisting with disaster relief.

"We really count on the volunteers to be able to help us keep the organization going. They do, probably 90-percent of, what the regular staff can't do because there's just not enough time in the day," Red Cross Volunteer Coordinator Jenny Hamman said.
