Onawa, IA city council approves budget following outcry over spending

ONAWA, Iowa (KTIV) - After some controversy late last month, the budget for the city of Onawa, Iowa, is set.

Tuesday night, the Onawa City Council unanimously approved the budget for the 2015 fiscal year. The numbers had some people fired up at an earlier hearing on February 25th. That included $1-million for a frontage road to the airport, and $600,000 for two new fire trucks.

Tuesday night, the council took public comment, but ultimately voted in favor of the budget.

The city administrator explained that some controversial items in the budget would depend upon receiving grants. Those grants would help supplement the projects, so the full burden would not be on the city.
