Inspirational speakers use strength to show students how to make the right choices

SERGEANT BLUFF, Iowa (KTIV) - Spreading alcohol and drug abuse awareness to kids can be tricky, especially if your audience is a gym full of middle school students.

But there's one group that's putting a twist on the typical school assembly.

The Power Team presented their unique show Sergeant Bluff-Luton Middle School.

The event kicked off with a bang, when team member Sergeant Rock blew air into a hot water bottle until it exploded.

It was just one of the many stunts that showed students they can do anything they put their minds to.

And the way to achieve their goals is to stay away from peer pressure to do drugs and alcohol.

Some students heard the message loud and clear.

"Drugs can kill you and take away your dreams and hopes," Colby Roos, a 7th grader said.

The Power Team knows that middle school students may face many challenges, but they're hoping their message will influence a positive outcome.

"We hope to maybe guide them to make the right choices. I know that I can't come in in 45 minutes and change a school, but I do know that I can change some lives," John Kopta, the Power Team said.

The Power Team will be speaking at Sioux City's Morningside Assembly of God Church every night at 6:30 from now until Sunday.
