Closed grain elevator in northeast Nebraska could reopen soon

PIERCE, Neb (US92/KTIV) - The President of the Pierce Elevator Inc. is in the process of finding an investment group in hopes of regaining managerial control of his Pierce, Nebraska grain business.

It's been a week since elevator president Brian Bargstad surrendered his licenses, his grain warehouse, and his grain dealer license to the Nebraska Public Service Commission.

That's after funding for the business was lost.

Commission officials says Bargstad is optimistic a group can be put together to help Pierce Elevator get on the road to recovery.

John Fetch, Director of Grain, Nebraska Public Service Commission said, "We are still willing to give him a week to do that. I just feel we need to allow that process to run its course. If it can happen that's fantastic. But also with the understand that he knows time is of the essence. If not, we need to move forward as a state regulator to follow our responsibility."

Fecht added he would like to think that, within the next week, if these individuals are really sincere, that they will make a commitment to fund the company.
