Siouxland Samplers Quilt Guild raises money for cancer patients

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) Nearly everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer.  It's a diagnosis that turns many patient's worlds upside down.  And, after the diagnosis, medical and personal expenses pile up very quickly.

That's why the Siouxland Samplers Quilt Guild decided to raise money for the June E Nylen's Patient Assistance Fund.

Their goal was $1,000, but they ended up raising more than $6,000.  They say raising this big amount, is something they're very proud of.

"It's going to a great fund, the patient assistant program. It is something that is really needed by people in our community your friends, neighbors, family. "said Leslie Walker, Quiltin' Bee Organizer.

The money was raised during the guild's Quiltin' Bee in February.  Leslie Walker says this year they had 70 quilters.

They hope to increase that to 150 next year, and secure a bigger venue for their event.
