Tyson Fresh Meats announces Denison, IA plant won't close as planned

Two years after announcing its Denison, Iowa plant would close, a spokesperson for Tyson Fresh Meats says the plant will stay open.

In March of 2012, spokesman Gary Mickelson told KTIV the Denison plant would close after the company's Dakota City plant completed a multi-million dollar expansion. Tyson is still working on that expansion.

Several other factors contributed to keeping the Denison plant open. Mickelson said that includes the closing of beef plants by some of Tyson's competitors, and reduced feed prices.

The Denison plant employs nearly 400 people.
