Authorities charge 3 people with murder in the double homicide in Crawford County Iowa

Three people face murder charges in the slayings of two elderly people whose bodies were found inside a burning trailer near Deloit, Iowa this week. Jayden Chapman, 19, Erika Haberberger-Dains, 36 and Michael Schenk, 26, are all charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree arson. Authorities said Marvin Huesling, 80, had been shot multiple times. Alice Huisenga, 81, was killed by what they call "homicidal violence."

Lawmakers approve texting while driving ban

After years of debate on the issue, the South Dakota Legislature has finally approved a statewide ban on texting while driving. The House and Senate both voted in favor of the measure Thursday and sent it to Governor Dennis Daugaard. The bill does not prohibit local governments from having texting bans that are stricter than the state law.

USDA success story in Laurel, Nebraska

The USDA is touting Laurel Biocomposites in Nebraska for how its investments in rural businesses and infrastructure come with big benefits. The agriculture department worked with a local bank provide a $5 million loan guarantee that helped the company buy equipment and provide working capital for its first operation. Laurel Biocomposites is currently operating one production line, but construction on a second line is expected to be done this month.

Middle school students recognized in Siouxland

Thirty-one students from across Siouxland are honored for overcoming challenges to excel in school. The eighth graders were recognized at the Quota International Honors Luncheon. The kids were nominated by their middle school guidance counselors or teachers. The group was originally started as a service group for women, but for the first time in 62 years boys were also honored.
