South Dakota governor signs legislation ending city's breed-specific dog bans

Posted:

PIERRE, S.D. (KTIV) South Dakota's governor has signed legislation keeping cities from passing breed-specific dog bans.

The bill's sponsor, State Senator Dan Lederman, of Dakota Dunes, says the new law grants wide authority... such as ordinances to prevent accidents or a dog bite from happening.

In communities like Jefferson and North Sioux City where they have breed-bans, they say their bans were put in place as a precaution after Sioux City passed its pit bull ban.
