Court documents released provide more details after two people are killed near Deloit, Iowa

DENISON, Iowa (KTIV) Court documents shed more light on how police were able to catch up with the suspects charged in this crime.

26 year old Michael Schenk, 19 year old Jayden Chapman, and 36 year old Erika Haberberger-Dains are each charged with two counts of first degree murder and one count of first degree arson.

Authorities say after the crime was committed, they searched the scene.  It was at that point they found a Wal Mart receipt, paid for by an EBT card. They were able to trace that card back to Schenk.

Authorities also interviewed Schenk and Chapman's friend.  That man said around the time of the fire Monday afternoon the three came to his home.  He told police they all had dirty clothes and smelled like a chemical.  He also saw metal fence posts in the back of a pickup.  And said the three told him they got stuck in a field and took whatever they could.

According to a criminal complaint, authorities also spoke with Chapman.  He told police they went to 1872 Milford Road to steal scrap metal.  He admitted to police that he and Schenk fired a gun.  Chapman said after both victims had been shot, Schenk poured flammable fluids on the trailer, with the two victims inside and set it on fire.
