Close friend reflects on life before tragic death of two friends

Family and friends are trying to deal with the loss of two people killed near Deloit, Iowa on Monday.

Dennis Fineran said his friendship with Marvin Huesling and and Alice Huisenga started more than 20 years ago. He farmed about two miles down the road from Huesling near Deloit, Iowa.

"We got to know them years back and borrowed stuff back and forth together. If we have something he needs, or vice versa, just a good neighbor, good folks," Fineran said.

He said Marvin worked for the FBI and was a deputy in Carroll County, Iowa. Then, Marvin retired and started farming. Dennis said Alice was from Maple River, just like Marvin. He said she was outgoing and loved to travel. Dennis said Marvin and Alice's husband were good friends, and after he died, Marvin stepped in to help Alice.

"He decided to help her farm her farm, so they helped each other basically. They were pretty much inseparable, you'd see one, you'd see the other," Fineran said.

Dennis said the trailer where the two died was used to store seed, and he remembered it most as "the spot" where he would typically go to socialize and drink coffee with Marvin and Alice.

"It truly just makes you feel terrible. You've got someone that 81-years-old and 80-years-old, to have that kind of end is so senseless. That's their golden years. They should be doing exactly what they want to do," Fineran said.
