Western Christian is the first team in school history to go undefeated.
DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV) -
Friday night, top ranked Western Christian capped off a perfect 27-0 season with a 48-38 win over West Fork to claim the Iowa Class 2A Championship.
It's the first time the Wolfpack have ever gone undefeated.
Senior Taylor Feenstra and sophomore Josh VanLingen led the way for the Wolfpack, each recording double-doubles.
It's the program seventh championship and first since 2010.
Leading 22-18 at half, the Wolfpack held West Fork to just one field goal in the third quarter to open up a 12 point lead, crusing to the title.
"It's a life long dream fulfilled," Feenstra said. "It's what you work for all those days, practicing all those mornings. You come in and stay late at the gym. It's all worth it."
"I had one team in 1991 that had one loss and that's the closest we've ever been," Eekoff added. "We play a tough schedule, a lot of good non-conference teams also. To go undefeated, it's just a great accomplishment."
Head Coach Jim Eekhoff also etched his name into the record books, tying Davenport's Paul Moon for the most titles by a coach, with seven.
