First-time candidate enters Woodbury County supervisor race

Everyone hopes to make a difference, whether it be in your family's life, your hometown, or in the local government.

That's why Alex Watters turned in his nomination petition for Woodbury County's board of supervisors Tuesday.

He received about 300 signatures and some of his supporters even showed up at the courthouse to provide encouragement.

The democratic candidate said he's ready to step up and start taking action in the county's government.

Watters grew up in Northwest Iowa, went to Morningside College, and now works there.

He said he's ready to add his vision in the board room.

"As a young professional, I also feel it's a perspective that is not being represented, either in the city or the county government, and it's a perspective that's important as we look at expanding economic growth and making budget decisions. I look forward to that opportunity to represent those people," Watters said.

Watters is up against Republican Supervisor David Tripp. When asked about how he feels about his opponent's pending criminal charges, Watters declined to comment.
