Sioux City police offer tips to keep children safe from strangers

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) After the recent arrest of a man, charged with impersonating a police officer many parents may be wondering what they can do to keep their children safe.

Crime Prevention Specialist, Chad Sheehan says if a plain-clothed officer approaches a child, they should ask for credentials.  It is also okay, he says, to ask them to send a uniformed officer to the scene.  Officer Sheehan says law enforcement officers will not be offended by someone making that request.  If the person does get upset, they likely are not a real police officer.

He advices parents to start talking with their children at the age of 3.
