Officials from a number of agencies in Dakota County gathered Tuesday in Dakota City, Nebraska to discuss issues at the annual Cities/County/School meeting.
One program headed by the South Sioux City school district, the college and career readiness program, received the most attention at the meeting.
As part of this program, school officials toured "college centers" in Grand Island, Neb. and Sioux Falls, S.D, with the hope of eventually having a college center of its own.
The school district has also partnered with local Colleges to explore ways to strengthen curricular opportunities for students.
The program is in its early stages, but it plans to allow students to develop a number of skills they could use in the workforce or in their post-secondary education.
"We want to strengthen those experiences while we have them, ease that level of transition once they leave us, and that they have that foundation of skill and knowledge that will help them be successful down the road," said South Sioux City school superintendent Vern Fisher.
Among the other things discussed at tonight's meeting were housing development, budgeting and city improvements.
