Woodbury Co. supervisors approve step in Highway 20 project

Expanding Highway 20 to four lanes across Iowa has been years in the making, but it could be closer to a reality in Woodbury County. The county's Board of Supervisors approved an agreement that confirms the state will foot the bill to make sure county roads are up to the same elevation level as Highway 20, but the construction work comes at no cost to the county. The county will have to pay for barricades and traffic control. Grading is set to begin on the project this summer.
College and career readiness program highlights Dakota County meeting

The College and Career Readiness Program of the South Sioux City School District was a focus of much discussion at a gathering of city, county and school officials Tuesday night in Dakota City. The aim of the program is to enable students to develop skills they could use in the workforce or in their post-secondary education. The school district is also partnering with local colleges to explore ways to strengthen curricular opportunities for students.

Iowa puts housing rentals onto new online database

The state of Iowa has unveiled a high-tech tool to help renters and landlords deal with a housing crunch. It's and it's the first state-run online housing database. Listings range from income-based apartments to market-rate condo rentals. There are 1,300 units listed in Woodbury County. It's a timely tool in Siouxland with the C.F. Industries expansion expected to bring in 2,000 construction workers.

First-time candidate enters Woodbury County supervisor race

A candidate has filed papers to run for Woodbury County Supervisor. Alex Watter turned in petitions at the courthouse Tuesday, with some of his supporters showing up to provide encouragement. The Democrat is an employee of Morningside College. He's challenging Republican incumbent supervisor David Tripp for his seat on the board.
