Iowa Democratic Senate candidate Bruce Braley travels to Siouxland

SALIX, Iowa (KTIV) - Congressman Bruce Braley has launched a new tour of Iowa as a part of his US Senate campaign, and stopped in Salix, Iowa on Wednesday.

Braley is calling this the "Iowa Works" tour.

He's highlighting the hard work of Iowans, and addressing the need for policies to help the middle class and create good jobs.

Braley says that Northwest Iowa is lucky to have a surplus of those good paying jobs, but legislation here is needed to help fill positions with skilled workers.

"We also have to look at how we train skilled workers, whether it's through union apprenticeship programs, community colleges like the one in Sioux City.

We have to be looking at ways that we can get kids interested earlier in a career path that will lead to a good paying job," Rep. Braley said.

Braley is the only Democrat running to fill the Senate seat that's currently held by Iowa Senator Tom Harkin.

Five Republicans are running for the right to face Braley in November.
