Grain elevator in Pierce, NE given more time to come up with investors

The Nebraska Public Service Commission is giving the Pierce Grain Elevator Company another week to come up with more funding before it's forced to close. An attorney for the elevator said there have been what he calls "major interest" from an investor. The company's attorney requested more time to make sure the people investing could commit to the dollars that are needed.

Students "kick butts" to reduce cigarette litter

Siouxland students were kicking butts Wednesday.  Cigarette butts, that is. The Mayor's Youth Commission took an anti-smoking campaign to three locations across Sioux City. In just one hour, they picked up more than 1,700 cigarette butts that people have thrown on the ground. The students are hoping this will help others to stop smoking.

Bryant Elementary uses technology to help students with reading and English skills

Learning can be tough for kids who have trouble reading or those who are still learning English. Some schools, like Bryant Elementary, in Sioux City are using technology to help those students achieve. The Imagine Learning software program teaches students through colorful graphics, games and videos. The company behind Imagine Learning has recognized Bryant Elementary as one of the top 50 schools out of 10,000 in the nation for using its program.

Bishop Heelan students pack 125,000 meals to feed the hungry in Honduras

Students at Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools are helping to feed the world. They closed their books for a while on Wednesday to pack 125,000 meals of rice and dried vegetables for people in Honduras. They do this every year at Heelan. Organizers of the "Then Feed Just One" program say it's a good way for students to learn about hunger issues facing other countries. Students contributed to the cost of these meals by paying $15 each.
