SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

A group of women in Siouxland are doing their part to give back to the community.

Thursday, Women United awarded $81,500 in grants to five local organizations.

These include, Food 4 Kids, Boys Club of Sioux City, The Salvation Army, Siouxland Community Health Center, and the Crittenton Center.

All of the money will go toward specific service projects that will help children of all ages.

"We look at programs that will try to break these inter-generational cycles of poverty and lack of education," Women United Chair Lynn Kafka said.

Since 2006, Women United has given away 35 grants and more than $600,000 to local non-profits.
