An Elk Point, South Dakota, man will spend up to 5-years in prison after his conviction on charges he assaulted his girlfriend.
The Union County State's Attorney says 39-year-old John Clarey got into an argument with his girlfriend, back on January 5th, and refused to let her leave. At one point, prosecutors say Clarey held a knife to the victim's throat and forced her to call her mother and tell her not to come over. Prosecutors say Clarey then physically abused the victim by allegedly pushing her through a window, which caused glass shards to cut the victim.
