Sergeant Bluff, IA woman in shock after fire destroys mobile home

SERGEANT BLUFF, Iowa (KTIV)- Crews spent more than four hours Friday afternoon on a trailer fire at Bridge Mobile Home Park on 8th Street in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.

When police arrived, flames were coming out of the roof of Julie Mosier's trailer home. Several agencies helped put out the fire, and made sure that it wouldn't re-ignite.

After 11 years living at Lot 125 in the Bridge Mobile Home Park, Julie Mosier thought something like this would never happen to her.

"I said, 'Why did it happen to me?' I thought I was a good person. I try to help people," Mosier said.

Mosier was on her way to work when she got a call about her home because it was on fire.

"I said all my stuff's in there, all my life savings, and now I probably don't have nothing," Mosier said.

"We had a little bit of a challenge trying to verify whether or not anybody was inside, luckily nobody was," Capt. Dean Lauters, with the Sergeant Bluff Fire Dept., said.

Lauters said once they got inside, it was a challenge for the firefighters to do their job.

"Inititally, there were quite a few obstacles inside, so getting around the structure inside was very difficult for us," Lauters said.

Mosier said she's still in shock that this is all that's left of her home.

"I can't believe it. This is the first time I ever had a fire," Mosier said.

And, at this point Lauters said the trailer will be red-tagged, meaning Mosier is left without her home and everything she owned.

Mosier said the trailer park is helping her out, and she'll be staying at a motel Friday evening. She also said she has a nephew that lives in the area and he'll probably help her out too.

But, for now, she's just thankful she wasn't inside when the fire started.

The fire is still under investigation.
