Jose Luis Cruz-Cuilty, 46, was arrested by North Sioux City police after they said he stole gas from the Kum & Go store in Elk Point, South Dakota. Police said he had a weapon that matched the description of the one involved in the robbery of the McDonalds on Sunnybrook Drive on March 20. He's charged with first degree robbery.
One person went to the hospital and another went to jail after a stabbing incident in Sioux City. Police were called to 814 18th Street afternoon Saturday for a report that two cousins were fighting over money. One person had been cut in the back of the head with a box cutter. The suspect ran, but was quickly apprehended.
Due to growing enrollment and a multi-million dollar grant, the Sioux City School District is getting some unexpected funds. Last year, Iowa lawmakers increased state aid by four percent. Funding is distributed based on the number of students in the district, and Sioux City's enrollment is up 350 students in the past two years. Also, the district was one of 39 chosen out of 140 in the state for an education reform grant worth more than $4 million.
While Kylee Doty, 4, of Danbury of Iowa is fighting a rare tumor, her hometown is coming together to raise money for the young Siouxland girl and her family. The Danbury Ambulance Service held a supper and auction at Danbury Catholic School to help with the family's medical bills. Kylee is undergoing her second round of chemotherapy in Rochester, Minnesota, and her parents said the outpouring of support is comforting during this difficult time.
