Authorities say there are still 108 people missing following Washington mudslide that left eight confirmed dead

(NBC News) The search continues for any survivors from Saturday's massive mile-wide mudslide in northern Washington.

At least eight people have been found dead, and more than 100 others are still missing or unaccounted for.

"The number, no question is going to decline dramatically, but its a number we're disclosing and a number we're working with," said Snohomish County Emergency Management Director John Pennington.

The mud slammed through 30 homes and swallowed up everything in its path, a square mile of quicksand-like muck 60-feet deep in some places.

In the first twelve hours, rescuers could hear voices from the mud, pleas for help.

Teams pulled a 6-month-old boy and six other people out alive.
