American Red Cross poster and essay contest winners announced

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The American Red Cross of Greater Iowa announced the winners of the March is Red Cross poster contest and 2014 Heroes of the Heartland essay contest.

The poster had to be themed, "Be Red Cross Ready."

The poster contest winners are:

• (3rd - 5th grade) - Darla Dumo, 5th grade, Dakota City Elementary School, Dakota City, NE

• (6th - 8th grade) - Mackenzie Mohr, 7th grade, West Monona Middle School, Onawa, IA

• (9th - 10th grade) - Jessica DeLaCruz. 9th grade, West High School, Sioux City, IA

The Heroes of the Heartland essay contest was open to students in third through twelfth grades.

The students were asked "Who is your hero?"

The Heroes of the Heartland essay contest winners are:

• (3rd - 5th grade) - Ty Regehr, 5th grade, Beresford Elementary School, Beresford, SD

• (6th - 8th grade) - Marissa Beaty, 8th grade, MOC-Floyd Valley Middle School, Orange City, IA

• (9th - 12th grade) - Grace Scott, 11th grade, Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School, Sergeant Bluff, IA

Students will be honored on Thursday, March 27 at 5:30 p.m. at the Marina Inn in South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Also to be honored at the event are the 2014 Heroes of the Heartland that the Siouxland Area Chapter of the American Red Cross announced last week.
