LE MARS, Iowa (KTIV) - As a municipal care center, Floyd Valley Hospital values providing the highest-quality care possible for the residents of Le Mars and Plymouth County.

The hospital is now preparing to take a big step forward in that goal with a 44,000 square foot expansion and renovation of the facility.

"We have been planning for our north addition project for the last four or five years, and we are very excited to finally be putting shovel in the ground and getting the formal part of the project going," said hospital administrator Mike Donlin.

The $26 million expansion will provide more surgical space and an integrated medical clinic for the hospital. USDA Rural Development is providing an almost $16 million loan to help offset the cost of the expansion.

"The rural development branch of the USDA, this is their purpose," said Donlin. "To shore up and provide infrastructure to rural communities. In our case, in Le Mars, it's a hospital."

"The hospital raised an additional 10 percent of its funding for the project through a capital campaign in which members of the community donated money toward the cause, making this expansion a total team effort.

The expansion of the hospital opens up several new doors for employees and patients alike, and officials say the result of the renovation will be enhanced services and increased quality of care.

"This means that for years and years to come, we are going to have quality healthcare in Le Mars and in Plymouth County," said Bauerly. "That is so important in these times."

Officials expect the renovation to be complete at the end of 2015.
