Secret behind one of the top 10 burgers in Iowa

ARNOLDS PARK, Iowa (KUOO/KTIV) - There's been a lot of buzz in around Iowa lately about the best burger in the State.

The list of the top ten in Iowa just recently came out and one was right here in Siouxland.

A lakes area establishment has been named as having one of the best burgers in the state.

For the third year in a row, the "Lue Burger" at the Ritz in Arnolds Park has made it into the top ten best burgers in the state in the Iowa Beef Industry Council and the Iowa Cattlemen's Association's Best Burger Contest.

Rick Jenrich, co-owner of The Ritz, says there are several factors that make the burger, named in honor of his mother who first came up with it, special.

"I think it's just a matter of cooking it to the right temperature where it's still juicy. We use all fresh vegetables, we sautee our onions, we toast every bun, the presentation of it when it comes out."

Jenrich says some mystery judges will stop by at an unannounced time in coming weeks to sample the burger.

He says the award for the Best Burger in Iowa is expected to be announced in early May, in conjunction with National Beef Month.
