The campaign for Nebraska's open gubernatorial seat is heating up with about six weeks to go before the May primary.
Omaha businessman Pete Ricketts held a town hall forum Thursday night to discuss issues with voters in Norfolk. Agriculture and tax reform were two big topics discussed Thursday. Ricketts said he wanted to see changes to both the state's property and income tax rates if elected.
Ricketts also discussed his plans for growing agriculture in the state which he said starts with addressing ag land valuation rates.
"Coming up with a sustainable water strategy, that's important to our state because we're the largest irrigated state. Opening up markets for our producers overseas through trade missions and reverse trade missions. Talking about what we do to support value added agriculture, whether it's going to be corn ethanol, branded beef, popcorn or hydroponic tomatoes," said Ricketts.
Ricketts is one of six candidates seeking the Republican nomination in the May primary. Another candidate, Attorney General Jon Bruning, is expected to make stops in Norfolk on Friday.
