American Airlines is awarded the EAS bid at Sioux Gateway


SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - American Airlines will continue providing Essential Air Service to the Sioux Gateway Airport.

American and United both submitted bids to the federal government for the EAS program.

The government awarded American $611,000 to provide 13 weekly flights from Sioux City to Chicago's O'Hare Airport.

The planes will remain 50-seat regional jets.

The deal runs for two-years and will end on April 30, 2016.

United Airlines submitted a bid for more than double the amount of American Airlines.
