Two men have pleaded not guilty to being accessories in the murder of a South Sioux City woman. Anthony Housman, 26, of Pender and David Rodriguez, 26, of Walthill are charged in the December 15 killing of 28-year-old Bonnie Baker. She was found shot dead inside a mobile home in Siouxland Estates. Authorities said the men drove the getaway car for Raymond Gonzales Jr., 22, who they say shot Baker.
Jury selection starts Tuesday in Tucson, Arizona in the trial of a man accused of murdering Jordan Peterson, 21, of Sioux City in 2011. Bryan Lee is charged with first-degree murder, robbery and kidnapping. Peterson disappeared in November of that year. His remains were later found in the desert. Last August, another man admitted to killing Peterson to avoid paying a drug-debt.
Iowa Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds is heading to Thailand to promote Iowa soybeans and other products. A Siouxland farmer is also going on the trade trip. Brian Kemp of Sibley is president of the Iowa Soybean Association. That group is paying for the week-long trip, which starts Saturday. Reynolds said that Thailand, with a large soy food industry and population of 69 million, offers a potentially lucrative market for Iowa soybean exports.
Voters in the Schleswig Community School District will decide on Tuesday whether to pay $4.25 million to build a new gym. If approved, the bond would also pay for a walking trail and parking spaces. Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
