Briar Cliff takes GPAC baseball & softball honors

The Briar Cliff baseball team had the GPAC Baseball Player of the Week as Jake Erichsen was given the honor after helping the Chargers go 4-0 in conference play.
 
Erichsen, a Sioux City North graduate, went 10-for-18 on the week with a .556 batting average. The Charger first baseman belted five homers and a double to rack up 13 RBI while scoring seven runs. Erichsen’s bombs were two solo homers, a two-run homerun, a three-run shot and a grand slam. He had two performances with six RBI and two homers as he led BCU to a 15-4 victory over Concordia and a 16-1 win over Nebraska Wesleyan. On the week, Erichsen held a slugging percentage of 1.444.

The Chargers four game winning streak ended Tuesday with a 13-5 loss to Dakota State.
 
Bailey Hendrix received GPAC Softball Pitcher of the Week honors for her pitching efforts last week, helping the Chargers go 4-2 overall.
 
Hendrix, a native of Gretna, Nebraska, was responsible for all four wins for Briar Cliff last week as she had a personal record of 4-2 as she recorded wins over Mount Marty and Avila University and back-to-back wins over Baker University. Hendrix’s best pitching performance of the week came in her first game as she fired a no hitter against the Lancers with four strikeouts in the 6-0 victory. Bailey pitched 27.1 innings during the week to tally 14 strikeouts and five walks while surrendering 21 hits and 13 runs (11 earned).
