Sioux City's Mayor recognizes volunteers

Volunteers perform selfless acts every day with no need of thanks.

They got a big "thank you", Tuesday, for their hard work making their communities a better place on the "Mayor's Day of Recognition for National Service," where more than a thousand mayors recognize the impact on the community.

Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott recognized those in the community who volunteer their time.

He spoke at the Center For Siouxland and thanked volunteers involved with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

"It's a big deal because volunteers who help with tax preparation, they spend a lot of countless hours here. We do taxes starting February 1st through April 15th. We're talking six days a week, Monday through Friday," Executive Director of the Center For Siouxland Jonette Spurlock said.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program provides free tax preparation for more than 1,000 each year.
