Kids are now home after a school bus overturned in Stanton County, NE

LEIGH, Neb. - A bus carrying 20-students from the Leigh, Nebraska School District flipped onto it’s side into a ditch around 8:00am Friday morning due to conditions.

A total of three students were reported inured, one was treated at the Leigh School for minor injuries while two students, an eight-year-old and nine-year-old were transported via ambulance to Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Dr. Michael Montgomery, Superintendent of the Leigh School provided an update on the status of the two that were transported to the hospital.

“Both children have been treated and released, they’re home now with their parents,” Dr. Michael Montgomery, Superintendent of the Leigh School said.

Dr. Montgomery did express his thanks for the parents and other area residents that helped take the remaining students to school Friday morning.

Stanton County authorities plan to retrieve the bus from the creek bed when conditions improve.

NEAR LEIGH, Neb. (US92/KTIV) - Authorities believe the wintry weather conditions were a factor in the crash of a school bus in northeast Nebraska Friday morning that injured three elementary students.

Officials with the Stanton County Sheriff's office say rescue units from three different departments responded to the accident on 827th Road about nine miles northwest of the community of Leigh.

A school bus from the Leigh district overturned about 8:00am, falling about four feet into a creek bed.

20 students were on the bus at the time.

Two girls, ages eight and nine, were transported to the hospital in Norfolk with non-life threatening injuries.

A third student was treated for minor injuries at the school itself.

Area residents helped transport the remaining students to school.
