Expectations high for Iowa QB Jake Rudock

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - Last spring much of the talk for the Iowa Hawkeyes was who was going to be the starting quarterback in the fall.

After a three horse race most of the spring, Jake Rudock earned the starting job.

Following a 4-8 season, in his first year under center, Rudock helped turned things around guiding Iowa to a 8-4 record and a spot in the Outback Bowl.

Despite suffering a knee injury the second half of the year, the Florida native started all 13 games for the Hawkeyes, throwing for more than 2,383 yards and 18 touchdowns.

He's showed his toughness and expectations are high heading into year two.

"The first thing I think about with Jake last year is that going into the year both he or CJ (Beathard), you don't necessarily know about their physical toughness and how they're going to handle getting banged around a little bit because our quarterback don't get hit in practice," Iowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz said.  "Obviously the highs and lows of the season, and how they deal with those things. We know a lot more about him now.  Our expectation level for him now is a little different than what it would be for a guy that hasn't played."

Iowa will have its spring game on April 26.
