SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Seventy-seven of Siouxland's top qualified high school juniors met this afternoon to get ready for a highly successful future.
The National Council on Youth Leadership held the Youth Salute leadership session, prepping the council's newest inductees for their enhanced leadership roles.
Area high schoolers applied for the council, and were selected based on their good citizenship, involvement, and academic performance.
Kevin Grieme, chairman of the council's planning committee, says the students on the council get training and experiences that are immeasurably helpful in preparing them for college and the real world.
"What we're hoping to do is to encourage them to begin to take a look at next year, their senior year. It's not too early to start planning, focusing on what do they want to do with their future," Kevin Grieme, National Council on Youth Leadership chairman said.
The students from Sioux City, Dakota Valley, Elk Point-Jefferson, Hinton, Lawton-Bronson, Sergeant Bluff-Luton, and South Sioux City will be recognized for their induction this coming September.
One student says he's very excited about the opportunity to be on the council, and learn how to enhance his leadership abilities and skills.
"I'm most excited to practice the interview process, because I know that's an important part of college applications and college interviews, and scholarships, so I'm excited to practice that," Andrew Lindquist, North High School junior said.
They spent the entire afternoon learning from Morningside College faculty and other leadership experts in the area, and council chairmen said, from each other.
