Pilger, Neb. teen injured in accident while heading to prom

Siouxland authorities say a teenager is recovering from injuries suffered in a crash over the weekend.

Officials with the Stanton County Sheriff's office say the accident happened just after 5 p.m. on Saturday. They say a 17-year-old girl from Pilger was on her way to Wisner-Pilger High School's prom on Old Highway 8 just east of Pilger, when she lost control of her SUV. The vehicle left the road and rolled several times before coming to rest in a ditch. She was transferred to St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point with internal injuries.

The vehicle is considered a total loss, but Stanton County authorities say the girl was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash, which they say is the reason she survived the accident..
