13 Bishop Heelan students are heading south to lend a helping hand

A send-off mass was held Tuesday morning for a group Bishop Heelan High School students.

Thirteen seniors, along with five adult chaperones, are saying goodbye to Sioux City and heading South for Mission Mississippi.

It's a 10 day service trip to one of the state's impoverished areas. Students will help remodel several homes, volunteer in a grade school and serve meals in a soup kitchen.

"I love taking part in community service. So I think it's awesome that we are staying and seeing what in the United States needs to be helped. Not what's outside of us we need to help. I think that we should be aware of what's going on in our country as well as outside," said Bishop Heelan senior, Brittni Porath.

This is the second time Bishop Heelan students have gone to Mississippi to lend a helping hand.
