Sioux City church helping orphans in Africa

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - Members of a Sioux City church are lending a helping hand half a world away.

Folks from Redeemer Lutheran Church gathered Wednesday for lunch to raise money to purchase a bus for an orphanage in Mali, Africa.

A woman named, Bibi runs the orphanage and the bus will help the children get safely to school and to church.

"So, it's been really neat to see all of the connections that we've had and other people have and to just share a little bit of the Lords work here." said Kyle Schutte, Bibi's Hope Committee.

There are about 140 kids at the orphanage and 90 kids have sponsors.

Sponsoring a child is $30 a month.

The money will go towards school, food, and clothing.
