McCarthy and Bailey's cut the blue ribbon as Sioux City's newest Blue Zones restaurant.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Fourteen restaurants in Sioux City are working to become Blue Zones Restaurants.
Thursday, the second of those 14 achieved that goal.
McCarthy and Bailey's cut the blue ribbon to make their certification official.
Though an Irish pub, the restaurant has taken steps to become a healthier establishment, including making fresh fruit or a salad the default side dish on many entrees. They've also removed salt and pepper from the tables.
It is a move that the restaurant believes will benefit customers.
"This is taking that heart-healthy stuff and just expanding it, and making it easier for the community to make better choices," said executive chef Nick Gunn. "The longer they're around, the better choices we can make for them, the more they're going to come visit us, and the better off we're all going to be in the long run."
As part of the certification, McCarthy and Bailey's also added three Blue Zones-certified dishes to their menu.
