SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KTIV) - It has been just over six months since multiple tornadoes swept across Siouxland, most notably in Moville, Iowa and Wayne, Neb.

Thursday, the National Weather Service branch out of Sioux Falls, S.D. used those tornadoes to help teach Siouxlanders.

A presentation on storms and tornadoes was given to the public in South Sioux City, Neb.

The attendants ranged from prospective weather spotters to people who simply wanted to learn more about what to look for in a storm.

The lesson covered everything from characteristics of storms to calculating the direction they're moving.

Presenter Todd Heitkamp says more information means more prepared weather spotters.

"We know these people go outside looking for tornadoes when the outdoor warning sirens are activated," said Heitkamp. "That's why we're trying to give them the education that if they do go outside, now they know what they're looking for and looking at, so they can better assess their risk and their danger at that point in time."

Heitkamp will give a similar presentation at Sioux City, Iowa's Western Iowa Tech in May.
